Whitehall has been maintained by The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in Rhode Island since 1899. The museum house is closed for the 2025 season with the exception of 12/7/25 event that is open to the public.
Whitehall will be open on Sunday, December 7, 2025 for Christmas at Whitehall from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. This is a community event in conjunction with Christmas in Newport 2025 –https://www.discovernewport.org/event/christmas-at-whitehall/81675/. Our Christmas gathering is an opportunity to invite our neighbors and the public to experience Whitehall and to learn how we honor George Berkeley’s important contribution to the intellectual life of the Colonies. Beyond the lovely decorations of greens, fruit and candles (now electric) that are reminiscent of an earlier time, the Colonial Dames prepare a wassail bowl and delicious Christmas treats. Guests of all ages are welcome to experience an old-fashioned way of celebrating Christmas, without the modern commercial overtones. Members of the Artillery Company of Newport welcome our guests and join in the festivities. Shelley Otis, harpist, will return for another delightful performance. Shelley can be followed at https://shelleyotis.com
We are located at 311 Berkeley Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842. Convenient parking is available.
Suggested donation for admission: $5 per adult, under 15 free.
Groups over ten may request a group rate of $3 per person.
